Good evening Windybush,
Tomorrow we will host a community meeting at the Windybush Swim Club. This is an important meeting for our community. We will give a community update, conduct board elections, and reserve most of our time for discussion with our elected representatives.
Our Elected Representatives
Dan Cruce – State Senator (District 1)
Larry Lambert – State Representative (District 7)
John Cartier – NCC Councilman (District 8)
I have received many questions about changes to our property taxes from neighbors and friends. I have many of the same concerns, and this meeting is a great opportunity to get answers directly from our elected representatives. This will also be our first time meeting Dan Cruce, who was newly elected since we last hosted all of our representatives.
Board Elections
The Windybush Civic Association will be holding officer elections in person at the community meeting. The positions of President, Treasurer, and Secretary are up for election.
As outlined in our bylaws, these officers are elected by the community. Nominations will be accepted from the floor during the meeting. Each household in good standing (dues current) is entitled to one vote.
Brian Cuddy, Karl Zipf, and I are each seeking re-election. We have completed our first 3 year term together, and while we are proud of what has been accomplished, we also welcome and encourage participation from anyone in the community who wishes to serve.
President’s Message
The Leamy family has a long history in Windybush. My grandparents bought the house at 107 Delview brand new in the early 1960s and raised their seven kids here. When they retired, they sold the house to my father, and I grew up there with my sister and two brothers. I spent my childhood at the Windybush Swim Club and riding my bike around the neighborhood. In 2018, we moved back to 121 Delview to raise our three children here.
I love this neighborhood and promise to always advocate with integrity for what the community wants, even if it differs from my own personal preferences. I will continue to promote transparency and be fiscally responsible on behalf of our community.
In the fall of 2022, I met with Brian Cuddy to discuss revitalizing the civic association. For years, Brian carried the weight of the association as its only active member. Thanks to him, we were able to get back up and running quickly and begin serving the neighborhood.
Over the past three years, we have encountered many unexpected challenges, and we have made so much progress. Some of our accomplishments include:
Establishing a fully functional Civic Association Board of Directors
Creating and adopting neighborhood bylaws
Hosting biannual community meetings
Maintaining consistent communication with our elected representatives
Hosting our elected representatives annually
Replacing the walking bridge on Windybush Road
Launching a website and Facebook page
Securing snow plowing for our neighborhood in winter
Hosting community events for Halloween, Christmas, and Easter
Securing insurance for the board and common lands
There is still much work to do, but the current board is a strong team, and we are committed to continuing this progress. Sometimes progress is slow, but we always act with the best interests of the neighborhood in mind. I look forward to serving another term as president so we can continue representing the community and making Windybush the best it can be.
I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow,
Kevin Leamy
