Today at the Delaware Senate’s 153rd General Assembly, we had the honor of receiving official recognition for Windybush’s 70th Anniversary.
Senator Dan Cruce spoke about our neighborhood with genuine warmth, calling Windybush a place “where neighbors become friends, and friends become family.” Our deep multi‑generational roots, our community gatherings, and the sense of belonging and safety we’ve built together are all things we can be proud to call home.
What stood out most during our visit to Legislative Hall was the heartfelt connection so many legislators expressed toward Windybush.
After Senator Cruce recognized our community, we were surprised and delighted when Senator Russell Huxtable of the 6th District stood to share that he grew up in Windybush — and that his parents only moved out about ten years ago. Moments later, Senator David Sokola added his own memories, noting that he grew up in the area, attended Mt. Pleasant High School, and fondly remembers Windybush as well.
Their stories and support made today’s recognition feel even more meaningful. It was a reminder that Windybush isn’t just a neighborhood — it’s a place that leaves a lasting mark on the people who call it home.
We look forward to continuing the momentum of celebrating our 70th Anniversary at the Block Party next month!
